Neal Shechter represents clients in complex commercial disputes, white collar criminal defense and regulatory matters.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Shechter was an Associate with the international law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York, NY, where he represented multinational life insurance companies in state and federal regulatory inquiries, class action litigation and state whistleblower protection claims as well as counseling on escheatment and related sales practice issues. Mr. Shechter has successfully represented manufacturing, private equity and asset management clients in contract disputes, shareholder derivative actions and antitrust merger review and counseling. Mr. Shechter has also defended a variety corporate clients in state and federal criminal inquires and internal investigations in and in responding to criminal and third party subpoenas.
Mr. Shechter served as a law clerk to the Hon. Vanessa L. Bryant in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. Mr. Shechter has also argued and won a variety of pro bono matters, including successful representation of a detained client in an asylum hearing and federal civil rights litigation under Sec. 1983 and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
Mr. Shechter graduated cum laude from New York University and earned his law degree cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a senior editor of the Annual Survey of White Collar Crime and won the 2011 Greenhalgh Trial Advocacy Tournament. During law school, Mr. Shechter previously served as an extern for the Hon. Amy B. Jackson in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, as well as an intern in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
